PROCEDURES:

Our procedures are oriented toward helping our patients increase strength; range of motion, pain relief, and to correct postural alignment.

EVALUATION:

Physical Therapy begins with an extensive exam to assess pain patterns, mobility, and any neurological involvement. A treatment plan is then developed and goals are set. Exercise is integrated throughout the treatment process to help promote healing.

SERVICES:

We take pride in researching and implementing the latest technology for healing and pain relief. We are the only facility in the area using Low Level Laser therapy for pain relief and the ASTYM Method for reduction of scar tissue.

We offer the following and more:

  • Electric Stimulation/Ultrasound
  • Traction
  • Low Level Laser [ www.thorlaser.com]
  • ASTYM Method [ www.astym.com]
  • ATM2 Equipment for Pain [www.backproject.com]
  • Iontophoresis
  • Joint Mobilization/Manual Therapy
  • Strength Training
  • Fully Equipped Gym for Rehabilitation

CONDITIONS THAT BENEFIT FROM PHYSICAL THERAPY:

  • Sports Injuries
  • Knee Pain and Knee Replacements
  • Low Back and Neck Pain
  • Strains/Sprains
  • Shoulder/Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tendonitis
  • Foot Pain/Plantar Fascitis
  • Post Surgical Weakness
  • TMJ
  • We also treat people who have been involved in an auto accident or have had a work injury.

Cornerstone Physical Therapy Center is excited to announce that we now have available the latest technology in the battle to combat PAIN.

Low-level lasers have been used in Europe for many years and are considered the most popular modality. This system was originally used with documented success for the relief of hand and wrist pain associated carpal tunnel. World-wide published research indicates that the laser is also beneficial in treating many more conditions.

There are many types of medical lasers. High-power lasers are used to cut, coagulate and evaporate tissues. These lasers are used in surgery, replacing the scalpel of the surgeon. Low-level lasers are used for stimulation of cell function. They are also called bio-stimulating lasers or low-intensity lasers. The effect is not thermal as is the surgical laser. It is important to note that treatments with low-level lasers are non-invasive and pain-free, promoting a very natural healing process.

Laser technology is an electro-therapy modality that emits photons of light from specific bands of the electromagnetic energy spectrum. When light is absorbed it induces increased production of cellular energy, which leads to normalization of cell function, tissues healing, and pain relief. The theory behind the how and why are very technical but the results we are having with our patients are phenomenal.

There are positive studieson the low-level laser that show clear evidence that it is highly effective for the following conditions: chronic pain, neck and back pain, tendonitis, sports injuries, soft tissue injuries, strains/sprains, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis/golfers elbow, fibromyalgia, migranes, plantar fasciitis, nerve regeneration, RSD, TMJ, etc. Plastic surgeons are now using the low-level laser to help speed up recovery of scar tissue.

Treatments are customized to meet the needs and condition of each patient. We use laser therapy as an integral part of our patient's weekly treatment plan, and have seen amazing progress with some of our patients by speeding up the recovery process.

It is important to note that cold lasers are used by many professional sports teams including the Philadelphia Eagles.

ATM2 (Active Therapeutic Movement)

Cornerstone Physical Therapy believes in keeping the medical community updated on the latest technology used for rehab. We now offer in our facility another cutting edge piece of equipment called the ATM2 or (Active Therapeutic Movement). The ATM2 enables pain free functional movement for patients with both thoracic and lumbar back pain. This includes a wide variety of diagnosis like joint disorders, disc disorders, and muscle imbalances. Pain and joint disorders alter normal muscle firing patterns. The ATM restores normal muscle activity as the patient is standing in a pain free stabilized position. The ATM2 is nothing short of revolutionary within the realm of pain and rehabilitation.

Developed by a Manual Physical Therapist from Australia, the equipment incorporates all of the modern manual therapy philosophies. The ATM2 is intended to bring the user from a painful to a pain-free situation with the use of stabilizing belts. The body is mobilized and immobilized manually in a standing position. Success depends on an experienced therapist and careful clinical examination.

The ATM2 has one objective, to normalize impaired movements. To do this it addresses the impaired movement's passive, active and neutral control components. This is not to be viewed solely as an exercise but neuromuscular training in pain free movements. While in the stabilization belts, pain is eliminated due to mechanical repositioning allowing the body to be put in an optimal position. Muscles can now be activated in a positive normalized manner. We are finding a marked difference in pain free range of motion with our patients before and then after the treatment.

ATM2 users include the Pittsburg Steelers, Stanford University, Back to Golf, New York Giants and San Fransisco 49ers, to name a few.

If you are a patient receiving the ASTYM System, you might be wondering what these strange instruments and tissue scraping are all about.

This is a simplified explanation of the ASTYM Syestem. It is a form of non-invasive soft tissue therapy designed to stimulate your body's natural healing process. It addresses underlying problems not just the symptoms. Adhesions and fibrosis within soft tissue can result from trauma, surgery, immobilization or repetitive strain.

The ASTYM System stimulates the breakdown of this disfunctional tissue that can occur after injury and allows functional restoration to occur.Because of this breaking down of scar tissue, you may experience soreness or bruising after the treatment. This is a normal part of the process. The discomfort will improve as treatment progresses. The objective is to break down abnormal tissue and to stimulate new collagen.

There has been substantial research and collected data which proves that the ASTYM System can work where other approaches fail. Below are a few diagnoses that respond well to ASTYM:

  • Post Surgical Scarring
  • Post Traumatic Fibrosis
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndromw
  • Lateral and Medial Epicondylitis
  • Shoulder Pain
  • Knee Pain
  • Sprains
  • Low Back Pain
  • Soft tissue changes from Degenerative Arthritis
  • Plantar Fasciitis

After careful evaluation, our therapist will determine if you are a candidate for this cutting edge procedure.

Kettlebell training is used to enhance strength, flexibility, and cardic fitness. Kettlebells were officially adopted by the former Soviet Union to keep their population physically fit.

Kettlebells are weighted spheres with a handle. As you swing the KB through space it's center of gravity changes, challenging the bodies stabilizers, core muscles, balance and cardio systems.

Kettlebells are safe, fun, and have really taken off from the Main Line gyms to Philadelphia. Cornerstone Physical Therapy employs KB training with rehabilitation. We also offer introductory training. As you become proficient, you can join more advanced kettlebell training with www.B2kravmaga.com.

If you are interested in kettlebells please call our office and ask to talk to Louis or Andrew Carreon.

I just want to say thank you to Lou and his staff for all their help during my recovery. I have been going to Cornerstone off and on for years now whenever my doctor suggests physical therapy. I receive the same quality of care that I did 15 years ago when I had my first visit there. They have treated everything from a neck injury to back pain, to my recent knee replacement. My recent injury was very painful but there is so much available to help you through the process. They are really on top of the latest treatments so I know I will get the best care that I need for my recovery. Thanks you all for your help!
