Yes. If you are being told that surgery is your only alternative it would be well worth the time to try another facility. Physical Therapy centers can operate very differently and vary in their approach and treatment. For example, we use many hands on techniques along with treatments that fit our patients particular pain needs. We have also found that sometimes the diagnosis is incorrect. We recently had a patient who was diagnosed with a rotator cuff issue. After a thorough evaluation with our therapist, he found that the pain was actually from a cervical nerve impingement. We then notified their doctor with the findings and treated accordingly.

Tendonitis is an inflammation of the tendon. Anti-inflammatory medication is often prescribed for this condition. Or you may try over-the-counter medication such as Advil, Motrin, or Asprin. Chronic tendonitis however could turn to tendonosis, which is a degeneration of the tendon. With tendonosis there isn't an inflammatory condition, therefore anti-inflammatory medication would not be effective. ASTYM, and laser treatments would benefit tendonosis.
